Dealing with an Agent during the Home Buying Process? By Catherine McCarty XML

If you are buying a home there is a good chance that you will be coping with a real estate agent who has been hired by the seller. While this may seem like a decent thing, there are several cases where real estate agents have been tough to cope with.

The good thing is that if you know what you are doing as a buyer you should not have any complications coping with the real estate agent, and any additional baggage that they may carry. Just remember, a bad real estate agent is not a reason to stay away from a home that you really like.
You will only have to cope with him or her for a short period of time, so if you do not like their attitude try to grin and bear it!

The first thing that you need to remember is that a real estate agent is hired by the seller to get them the best possible deal on their house. For this reason, they will do anything to sell you a house, and if they are lucky sell it to you at list price. To make you know, real estate agents only get paid when they sell homes. They get a commission of the selling price.

So again, the more money they sell the more will be their commission.
Just like any other type of sales person, a real estate agent has their financial needs. If you are having a tough time coping with a real estate agent, make sure that you express this to them.

Tell the real estate agent that you really like the house you are interested, but that they are making things complicate on you. This may help them to realize and see that they are not giving themselves the best chance to succeed. In other words, try to keep a good communication open if at all possible. This will give you a much improved chance of working with them on a business level that does not put you off.

All in all, coping with real estate agents is not always the easiest thing to do when buying a home. They have their own agenda, and you have yours at the same time. The key to success is acting professionally, and doing whatever it takes to get past the differences that may be putting you off.
