Sanibel Island is located in the Gulf of Mexico just offshore of Fort Myers in Lee County, Florida and neigbors to Sarasota County real estate. The island is a barrier island: a sand bar resulting from the particles of coral rock drifting off of Pine Island. The entire island consists only of the city of Sanibel. With pristine white sand beaches, an abundance of sea shells, endless sun, and a vast array of wildlife, Sanibel Island has long been the perfect island getaway for vacationers and residents alike.
Sanibel Island has absolutely no high-rises, no stoplights, and no light pollution. Residents and visitors continue to marvel at the flawless gently-sloping beaches and soft-breaking waves, perfect for swimming, snorkeling, toddlers, and anyone looking to lie out in the comfortable Florida sun. While it offers a slow-paced island lifestyle, it is not lacking in fabulous amenities. The island is home to two country clubs, one with a private golf course, the other semi-private. Tennis, sailing, fishing, volleyball, and much more is possible here, as well. Protected roads for jogging and biking run through the island, giving exercisers a glimpse at the outstanding wildlife present in Sanibel. From otters, dolphins, and manatees in the sea to rabbits, raccoons, bobcats, and even tortoises commonly found crossing streets, Sanibel Island’s wildlife residents are plentiful.
Sanibel is also abundant in its opportunities for live entertainment, dining, and shopping. The island boasts live theater, art classes, music festivals, and much more. Anyone’s shopping needs are met by the various stores and boutiques in the city.
