Sanibel Island is located in the Gulf of Mexico just offshore of Fort Myers in Lee County, Florida and neigbors to Sarasota County real estate. The island is a barrier island: a sand bar resulting from the particles of coral rock drifting off of Pine Island. The entire island consists only of the city of Sanibel.
